REGGAE FLUTE MIX - PART 4 - THING CALLED BRAATA

Joe Higgs & King Stitt – Dinah – Studio One LP
Coxsone Dood production from 1966 (King Stitt overdubs from 1993) taken from Dance Hall ’63 LP

Rolando Alphanso – Musical Happiness – Studio One LP
Alphanso blowing the flute on a second tune (check part 1 for the other one)
Bop & The Beltones Not For A Moment riddim.
Coxsone Dood production from 1973 (LP Best Of Rolando Alphanso)

Techniques - I'm In The Mood For Love - LP
Duke Reid production from 1968

Chosen Few - I Love The Way You Love version - Blank 7 inches
Tony Robinson production from 1975

Harry Mudie & King Tubby - Tribal Recipe Dub – Moodisc LP
Big up Bassta for this tune using a rather strange chord progression.
Harry Mudie production from 1978 taken from Meets King Tubby In Dub Conference vol. 3 LP

Nuwaupu - Marcus Garvey - Rootical Dubber 7 inches
A special tune, mystical & jazzy, in the Light Of Saba LP’s vein.
Ted Powell production from 1974

The Upsetters – Blackboard Jungle Dub aka Black Panta –Blackboard Jungle Dub LP (Clocktower)
A Lee Perry classic that gave its name to this crucial LP.
The cut played comes from the Clocktower pressing which is mono, but a stereo version also exists with I Roy intro on the left and the flute on the right (original press & Auralux repress)
Production Lee Perry de 1973

Abyssinians – The Good Lord – Heartbeat LP
Clive Hunt blowing on this tune composed by Donald Manning and rasta elder Mortimer Planno
Self production from 1975 (Satta Massagana LP)

Burning Spear – Live Good – Island LP
Carlton Samuels playing the flute on this Jack Ruby production from 1975 (Marcus Garvey LP)

The Black Disciples – Harvest – Heartbeat CD
Another time Carlton Samuels riding a Jack Ruby riddim, this time on the Eagles (Horace Johnson) Rasta Harvest.
Lawrence « Jack Ruby » Lindo production from 1976

Rockers All Star – Waiting For The Bus – Rockers DVD
An unreleased tune, only available as a bonus audio track on the first DVD edition of this absolutely essential film.
I usually not fond of chord bridges in reggae tunes, but this one is an exception !
Patrick Hulsey production from 1977

Vivian Jackson & The Prophets – Walls Of Jerusalem –Jesus Dread Box Set LP (Blood & Fire)
King Tubby’s – Jerusalem Dub – Blood & Fire LP
Yabby You here shows is unusual belief for a rasta « upon that hill they crucifed our God », refusing to see Selassie as God. However, he accepts Gods personification in Jesus Christ wo suffered « for I&I ».
Here we find Tommy McCook on the flute again, and I didn’t resist to mix the tune with the awesome King Tubby’s dub with its “big knob” effect on the bass.
Yabby You production from 1977

Tommy McCook – Death Trap – Vivian Jackson 12 inches
One of McCook’s best flute cuts, on a heavy flying cymbals from Yabby You, what more to say… an absolute killer !
For a version excursion, you can check the next cuts by Linval Thompson (Big Big Girl) and I Roy (War & Friction).
Yabby You production from 1976

Rico – Repatriation Remedy – Aggrovator 7 inches
Horns piece to Errol Dunkley's Repatriation, produced by Bunny Lee circa 1975

Rico – Africa – Island LP
Another Rico Rodriguez tune. A vocal to this tune exists on a very rare 7 inches sung by the great Ijahman.
A 1977 Karl Pitterson production taken from Man From Wareika LP.

I Jah Man Levi - I'm A Levi – Island LP
One of my favorite flute tunes and of my favorite tunes as well !
Ijahman mystical profession of faith on a stepper roots of the highest calibre… spine-tingling fe real.
Please play very loud
Self production from 1978, taken from Haile I Hymn (Chapter One) LP.
